Audio Recorder – Voice Recorder records sound in Chrome and keeps those recordings on your device. This page explains what stays local, what may be sent when you use the extension or this website, and how to reach us.
Audio stays on your device
Recordings are saved in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB). The extension asks Chrome for unlimited storage so a long library can grow with the space on your disk. Audio is not uploaded to our servers. There is no account.
A recording leaves your device only when you download it or use Share. Share opens your system's share sheet when the browser provides one; otherwise the file is downloaded.
Settings, including the microphone, quality, and shortcuts you choose, are stored with chrome.storage.local on this computer.
Microphone and tab audio
The microphone is requested only when the source you pick needs it (Microphone or Both). Chrome shows a permission window, and recording starts after you click Allow. Tab audio does not need the microphone. You can revoke microphone access later in Chrome's site settings.
Tab audio is captured from the tab you are recording. Chrome does not allow capture on its own internal pages. The extension does not read the text of pages you visit, and it does not send tab addresses with analytics.
What may be sent
- Product analytics (Umami). If analytics is enabled, the extension sends anonymous usage events to our self-hosted Umami at umami.extsite.tech. Events do not include audio or the addresses of pages you browse.
- Error reports (GlitchTip). Sanitized error reports may be sent to our self-hosted GlitchTip at glitchtip.extsite.tech so we can fix failures. Reports are not your recordings.
- Feedback you choose to send. Uninstalling can open a short survey at feedback.extsite.tech. An optional feedback form at features.extsite.tech opens only when you choose it. Submit only what you are comfortable sharing.
- This website. Pages on audiorecordervoicerecorder.extsite.tech use the same self-hosted Umami to count visits and install-link clicks. The site does not use advertising trackers.
Chrome permissions
- storage saves settings and local counters on your device.
- unlimitedStorage lets the recording library grow beyond the usual extension quota. The practical limit is available disk space.
- tabCapture records the sound of the tab you choose.
- offscreen keeps capture running in a hidden document while the popup is closed.
- Host access lets the extension capture the active tab and reach the analytics and error-reporting hosts named above.
Retention
Local recordings and settings remain until you delete them, clear the extension's data, or uninstall. Analytics, error reports, and feedback you submit are kept according to those services' settings and are used to operate and improve the product, not to build advertising profiles.
Children
The extension and this website are general tools. They are not directed at children under 13.
